Sacred to the memory of John Mellor of School Terrace Lingards the first and for forty one years 1835 to 1876 Master of the Slaithwaite National School who departed this life in faith and peace February 11^th 1877 in the 63^rd year of his age.

Also of Ann wife of John Mellor and daughter of John Roberts, Sugeon who died May 31^st 1862 aged 43 years.
Also of the children of John and Ann Mellor.
Susannah Frances Selina who died May 18^th 1855 aged 1 year.
James Roberts who died June 14^th 1868 aged 8 years.
George Frederick who died July 12th 1868 aged 22 years.
This monument is erected as a tribute of respect by a few of his former scholars and friends.
Also of Sarah Ellen second wife of John Mellor and daughter of James Matthewman of Birkby Huddersfield who died September 24^th 1884 aged 52 years.
Also of their children
Sidney Albert who died March 26^th 1871 aged 4 years.
Edith Caroline who died August 28^th 1874 aged 14 weeks.
Also of Lydia Mellor the beloved mother of John Mellor who died November 28^th 1856 aged 73 years.
